UK Student Visa Bank Balance from Nepal 2027: New Funds Rules and the 28-Day Guide

UK student visa bank balance from Nepal 2027

Picture a student in Kathmandu who has just received a CAS from a UK university. The family is happy. Then the bank asks a simple question: how much money must we show, and for how long? Many families guess, and a wrong guess can cost a visa fee and months of waiting.

This year the guess gets harder. From 30 November 2026, the UK raises the living-cost money that Student visa applicants must show. If you apply on or after that date, the UK student visa bank balance from Nepal 2027 is higher than the figure on many older websites.

The UK calls this the maintenance requirement, but most families search for it as a bank balance, so this guide uses both terms. We checked every figure against GOV.UK and the Immigration Rules on 4 November 2026. If you are still choosing where to go, start with our guide to study in the UK from Nepal.

Quick Answer: UK Student Visa Bank Balance from Nepal 2027

  • London: £1,570 per month for up to 9 months, which is £14,130
  • Outside London: £1,203 per month for up to 9 months, which is £10,827
  • Add the tuition fees you still owe, as shown on your CAS
  • Keep the full amount for 28 days in a row
  • Use evidence dated within 31 days before you apply
  • Applications made before 30 November 2026 still use the old rates of £1,529 and £1,171

What Changes in the UK Student Visa Maintenance Funds from 30 November 2026?

The Home Office published Statement of Changes HC 584 on 3 September 2026. It lifts the monthly figure to match the maintenance loans that home students can get in 2026/27. This is the main change to the UK student visa financial requirement for 2027 intakes.

Study location Until 29 Nov 2026 From 30 Nov 2026 Nine-month total
London £1,529 £1,570 £14,130
Outside London £1,171 £1,203 £10,827

The date you submit your online application decides the rate. Your CAS date and course start date do not matter. That creates a small window. A student who applies before 30 November 2026 saves £369 in London and £288 outside London. Early applying only makes sense if your CAS is ready and your funds have already been held for 28 days. A rushed application with weak documents costs far more than the savings. You can apply up to six months before your course starts.

London means the City of London and its 32 boroughs. If your university has several campuses, ask which one counts for your CAS. Not sure where to study yet? Read our guide to the best cities to study in the UK for Nepali students.

How Much Is the UK Student Visa Bank Balance from Nepal for 2027?

The formula is simple: tuition you still owe plus living-cost funds. Your CAS shows your first-year fees. If you paid a deposit and it is recorded, subtract it. For living costs, count every month of your course up to nine. A part-month counts as a full month, so a course of five months and six days needs six months of funds.

Case Tuition still owed Living costs Total to show
London, fees £15,000, paid £4,000 £11,000 £14,130 £25,130
Outside London, fees £13,000, paid £3,000 £10,000 £10,827 £20,827
London, fees £12,500, nothing paid £12,500 £14,130 £26,630
Outside London, 5 months 6 days, fee £7,000 £7,000 £7,218 (6 months) £14,218

These are example fees, not real university prices. A one-year master’s, such as an MBA in the UK, still uses the nine-month cap.

For a rupee picture, at roughly NPR 205 per pound, £14,130 is about NPR 29 lakh and £10,827 is about NPR 22 lakh. This is an illustration only. UKVI uses its own rate on your application date.

How the UK Student Visa 28-Day Rule Works for Nepali Students

Think of the 28 days as a countdown that starts at the closing balance date on your latest statement. UKVI counts backwards from that date. Your balance must stay at or above the required amount for the whole stretch.

Here is an example. Your latest statement closes on 20 January 2027. The 28 days run from 24 December 2026 to 20 January 2027. You can then apply any time up to 20 February 2027, because the evidence must be no more than 31 days old. So your money may need to sit untouched for up to 59 days before you apply.

Check these before you submit:

  • The balance never dropped below the required amount in the 28 days
  • The statement shows your name, the bank name and the balance
  • The latest statement is dated within 31 days of your application
  • The account allows immediate access to the money
  • The statement is in English, or you have a translation
  • Your bank letter, if used, states the 28-day holding

Student loans and official sponsorship do not need the 28-day hold. They have their own paperwork. Many refusals start with small errors, so read our list of UK student visa rejection reasons.

Do Nepali Students Need to Submit Financial Evidence?

Yes. Nepal is not on the UK list of nationalities that can skip upfront evidence. Only a few groups are exempt, such as applicants already in the UK on a valid visa for 12 months. Even exempt applicants must still meet the money rules, and UKVI can ask for proof later.

Can I Use My Parents’ Bank Account for a UK Student Visa?

Yes. Money held by a parent or legal guardian counts, and this suits the UK student visa bank balance from Nepal 2027 for most families. You need proof of your relationship, such as a birth certificate, and written consent from the account holder. Guardians need a legal document. A joint account in your name also works.

Accounts of an uncle, aunt or sibling do not count. A partner’s account counts only if the partner applies at the same time or already has permission.

Can I Use an Education Loan from Nepal for a UK Student Visa?

Yes, if the loan meets the rules. A general personal loan does not. Read our guide to education loans in Nepal first, then ask your bank for a letter that:

  • Is dated no more than 6 months before you apply
  • Says it is a student loan from a government, a government-backed lender or a regulated student loan scheme
  • Says the only release condition is a successful UK study application
  • States the loan amount
  • Says the loan is for you
  • Confirms the lender meets the regulation rules

The letter must also say when the money arrives. It can be available before you travel, paid to your university before you travel, or, for a loan from your own government, available before your course begins. Official sponsors such as governments or universities are another route. See our guide to scholarships for study abroad.

Which Bank Statements and Documents Count as Proof of Funds?

For UK student visa proof of funds from Nepal, UKVI accepts paper or electronic bank statements, building society passbooks, certificates of deposit and bank letters. The bank must be regulated, use electronic records and allow UKVI to verify the evidence. The money must be yours to access immediately and legally earned.

These do not count:

  • Overdrafts and credit cards
  • Cryptocurrency, shares and bonds
  • Pensions you cannot withdraw immediately
  • Unregulated accounts or banks without electronic records
  • Property or land value

You may hear that only 12 Nepali banks are accepted. UKVI publishes no such list. It checks the bank against the rules above, so ask your bank to confirm it meets them. Before choosing a university, learn how the UKVI RAG system for Nepali students works.

How Does UKVI Convert Nepali Rupees into Pounds?

UKVI converts rupees using the OANDA spot rate on the date you apply. The rate moves, so a number you calculated weeks earlier may be off. Keep a sensible buffer above the minimum.

Are the Visa Fee and Health Surcharge Part of the Bank Balance?

No. You pay them separately online. The Student visa fee is £558 for applications from outside the UK. The Immigration Health Surcharge is £776 per year for students, and £388 for a part-year of six months or less. The charge follows your visa length, not just your course dates.

Budget separately for the TB test, flights, accommodation deposits and daily costs. Our visa counselling team can help you plan the full cost.

Can a Tuition Deposit or Accommodation Payment Lower the Funds You Must Show?

Yes. Tuition you have already paid reduces what you still owe, if your CAS or university receipt records it. Accommodation paid directly to your university can reduce the living-cost amount too, up to £1,570 from 30 November 2026. Rent paid to a private landlord does not count. Confirm the details with your university before you subtract anything.

Can I Bring My Spouse or Children on a UK Student Visa?

Only government-sponsored students on courses over six months and full-time postgraduate research students (for example, a PhD) can bring dependants. Each dependant needs extra funds on top of yours.

Study location Per dependant per month Nine-month total
London £845 £7,605
Outside London £680 £6,120

A London student with one dependant shows £14,130 plus £7,605, which is £21,735 in living costs. The dependant rates are under government review, so recheck them before you apply.

Do Nepali Students Need a TB Test for the UK?

Usually yes, if you will stay longer than six months and have lived in Nepal for the required period. Use a clinic approved by the UK Home Office. A certificate from any other clinic can be rejected. Check the official Nepal TB testing page before booking.
